About the family:

This is a wonderful opportunity to join an easygoing, active Sewickley family who truly values having a trusted caregiver become part of their family.

With three boys ages 8, 16, and 18, this family is entering a new season and looking for someone who can step into a hybrid Family Assistant/Nanny role. Their oldest will be heading off to college this fall, and their 16-year-old is largely independent, so the heart of the childcare portion of this role will center around their youngest son who turns 9 in September.

Their 8-year-old is an easygoing, active, social, and engaging kid with a bit of an “old soul” thanks to growing up alongside two older brothers. He loves soccer, exploring outside, spending time in the garden, walking the family dogs, showing off his pet tortoise, Nerf battles, and adventures to parks, museums, the zoo, and their club pool. He thrives with someone who is willing to get involved, be active, and genuinely enjoy spending time together.

This is a family who deeply values long-term relationships. Their previous nanny was with them for nearly nine years and became an important part of their family. As their children have grown, their needs have naturally evolved, and they are now looking for someone who can provide that same sense of trust and connection while also stepping into a more hands-on Family Assistant role.

The parents travel regularly, so trust is especially important. They are looking for someone who can confidently hold down the fort and become a dependable, long-term presence in their lives.

The Role:

This is a true Family Assistant/Nanny position with a natural rhythm between household support and childcare.

While their youngest is at school, your time will primarily focus on keeping the household organized and running smoothly. This may include family laundry, dishes and kitchen upkeep, receiving and organizing groceries, keeping the refrigerator and pantry tidy, light vacuuming as needed, maintaining existing organizational systems, and helping with very simple family meal preparation.

The family isn’t looking for a housekeeper, but they are looking for someone who notices what needs attention and is happy to jump in. You’ll also help encourage the boys to stay on top of their own responsibilities while helping maintain an organized home.

Once their son is home, the focus shifts to him. Days may include preparing a snack, homework help, outdoor activities, heading to the club pool, arranging a playdate, exploring a local park, or driving him to soccer practice and other activities. During school breaks and summer, there will be more opportunities for outings, camps, soccer games, swimming, museums, and adventures together.

The family also has two very loved French Bulldogs, so comfort with dogs is a must! Daily support may include letting them outside and taking them for walks, with responsibility for their routine care while the family travels.

When the parents are away, you’ll be the trusted adult keeping everything moving at home. This will include staying overnight at the family’s home, supporting their youngest son’s routine and transportation, being the responsible adult in the home for their teenage son, preparing meals, caring for the dogs, and independently managing day-to-day household needs. The family anticipates approximately eight overnights per year.

Ideal Candidate:

This family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the variety that comes with a Family Assistant role.

You are proactive, organized, and naturally notice what needs to be done without waiting for a detailed list. You take pride in keeping a home running smoothly, but you’re just as comfortable switching gears when their son walks through the door and is ready to head outside or play in the house.

You’ll do especially well in this role if you are easygoing, patient, dependable, and flexible. The family needs someone who can confidently work independently, communicate well, and adapt when schedules shift.

Because the parents travel, they are looking for someone they can trust completely to manage the home and children in their absence. Comfort with occasional overnight care, Saturdays, and schedule flexibility is an important part of the position.

Most importantly, they hope to find someone interested in building a genuine, long-term relationship with their family. They value the special role a great Family Assistant can play in a household and would love to find someone who wants to be part of their lives for at least the next 3 years.

Additional Details:

The typical schedule will be Tuesday through Friday from 10am–6pm, plus Saturdays, with 40 guaranteed hours per week. Saturday hours will vary depending on the family’s needs, but the family guarantees 8 hours of pay each Saturday, regardless of whether all 8 hours are needed. Mom is a planner and aims to provide approximately three weeks of advance notice for Saturday scheduling.

Both parents have flexible work schedules and may work from home at times, but they are respectful of the Family Assistant’s role and are accustomed to allowing their caregiver to take the lead.

A family vehicle is available for transporting their son and handling outings as needed. The family is looking for someone comfortable driving regularly and confidently managing transportation to activities, practices, camps, and weekend soccer games.

Flexibility is an important part of this position. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with schedule adjustments on Saturdays and overnight stays when the parents travel.

Overnight care will be compensated separately, with regular hourly pay for working hours and an overnight fee for sleeping hours. Specific overnight compensation will be discussed and agreed upon with the selected candidate.

The family is hoping to find someone who can start ASAP and become comfortably established in the role before upcoming family travel.

Qualifications:

• Valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured vehicle

• Legally authorized to work in the United States

• At least 20 years of age

• Non-smoker

• Minimum of 2 years of professional nanny, Family Assistant, household management, or comparable experience

• Previous experience and confidence with household or Family Assistant responsibilities

• Comfortable driving and transporting children

• Comfortable working with school-aged children and teenagers

• Comfortable with dogs and willing to assist with their care

• Proactive, organized, and able to work independently

• Comfortable with a flexible schedule, including Saturdays and overnight care

• Willingness to complete required background, driving, social media, and reference checks

• At least two professional references

• Ability to make a long-term commitment

• Current CPR & First Aid certification

• PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal History, and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances
