About the family:
This is a wonderful opportunity to join a busy, active family in the Irwin/North Huntingdon area who is looking for an experienced household professional to become a trusted, long-term part of their daily lives.
With two boys, ages 7 and 9, who are involved in football, basketball, and lacrosse, there's always something going on! Both parents work outside the home at their family-owned business, and they're hoping to find someone who can take the day-to-day responsibilities of running their household off their plates so they can spend more time enjoying family life.
The family lives in a spacious home with their two boys and a seven-month-old mixed-breed dog. Between school schedules, sports, appointments, household upkeep, and everyday responsibilities, they're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys bringing organization and structure to a busy home.
More than anything, this family values reliability, trust, initiative, and attention to detail. They place a high value on having a clean, organized, and well-maintained home and would love to find someone who takes genuine pride in maintaining those standards.
They’re hoping to find someone who takes the time to learn their household, understands their routines and preferences, and eventually knows what needs to be done without having to be asked. Their goal is to come home at the end of a busy workday knowing the household has been thoughtfully cared for, allowing time to focus on what matters most: spending quality time together as a family.
Above all, they’re hoping to build a lasting relationship with someone who becomes a familiar, dependable, and valued presence in their lives.
The Role:
This is a true Household Manager / Family Assistant hybrid position with a hands-on approach to keeping the household organized, maintained, and running smoothly.
The day will typically begin with helping the boys get ready for school. This may include waking them around 7:30am, preparing breakfast, helping them get dressed and organized, and making sure they're ready to catch the bus around 8:15am.
Once the boys are off to school, the focus will shift primarily to household management and family support. Responsibilities may include managing family laundry from start to finish, making beds, keeping bedrooms and common areas tidy, dishes and kitchen upkeep, organizing and maintaining household systems, vacuuming high-traffic areas, managing groceries and household supplies, and handling errands or other household needs.
The family would also love assistance with meal preparation, including preparing approximately two full family meals per week, washing and cutting fresh produce, preparing snacks, and occasionally packing the boys' school lunches when needed.
A significant part of this position will involve managing the details that help a household run efficiently. This may include coordinating household vendors, scheduling maintenance and service visits, arranging pet grooming or veterinary appointments, managing deliveries and returns, assisting with family scheduling, and keeping track of household needs before they become another task for the parents.
The family utilizes a Skylight calendar, Amazon Echo, Instacart, and Amazon to manage schedules and household needs. The Household Manager will have access to these systems to help coordinate schedules, manage grocery orders, and keep household essentials stocked.
Routine household upkeep and attention to detail are particularly important aspects of this position. The family is looking for someone who will consistently maintain the kitchen, main living spaces, bedrooms, and other frequently used areas, including making beds, tidying, keeping surfaces clean, vacuuming high-traffic areas, and handling light floor or bathroom touch-ups between professional cleaning visits.
The ideal candidate would be someone who naturally notices the little things, whether that’s an area that needs tidied, a surface that needs wiped down, laundry that needs put away, or supplies that need replenished. Rather than waiting for instructions, they’ll take initiative to address these needs and help maintain the family’s preferred standards of cleanliness and organization.
This is not intended to be a deep-cleaning position. The family is actively searching for a separate Private Housekeeper to handle more intensive cleaning responsibilities.
The Household Manager will also help coordinate and oversee the Private Housekeeper’s work, including communicating cleaning priorities, maintaining an agreed-upon cleaning schedule or checklist, following up on completed responsibilities, and bringing any concerns to the family’s attention. The goal is for both household professionals to work collaboratively to keep the home consistently clean, organized, and well cared for.
However, qualified candidates who enjoy housekeeping and are interested in additional, separately scheduled cleaning hours may also be considered for these responsibilities if mutually agreed upon, with duties and compensation established accordingly.
The family would also appreciate someone who enjoys children and is comfortable providing occasional assistance, transportation, or additional support during school closures and summer breaks when needed.
The boys typically return home from school around 3:45pm. Depending on the day's priorities, the Household Manager may assist with welcoming them home, preparing a snack, and helping them get settled or started on homework before the end of the workday.
The family also has a young dog who will need basic care throughout the day, including feeding, being let outside, occasional backyard playtime, and assistance coordinating pet-related appointments.
Ultimately, the goal is to find someone who can confidently take ownership of the household’s daily needs, anticipate what needs attention, maintain the family’s preferred routines and standards, and create a smooth, organized environment where the parents can truly enjoy their time at home.
Ideal Candidate:
This family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys household management and takes pride in keeping a home clean, organized, stocked, and running efficiently.
You're naturally proactive and detail-oriented. You notice when the refrigerator needs restocked, when laundry needs attention, when an appointment needs scheduled, or when an area of the home could use some extra attention, and you take the initiative to handle it without being asked.
You understand that every household has its own routines, preferences, and ways of doing things. You take the time to learn those details, respect the family’s established systems, and consistently maintain their expectations without needing repeated reminders.
You have a strong eye for cleanliness and organization and genuinely enjoy maintaining a home that feels welcoming, orderly, and well cared for. You’re someone who notices details others might overlook and takes pride in following through on tasks thoroughly.
You're comfortable managing your own time, prioritizing responsibilities, and working independently without constant direction. You understand that every day in a busy household may look a little different, and you're confident adjusting your priorities while ensuring important responsibilities are completed.
Reliability is especially important to this family. They're looking for someone who is consistently punctual, communicates clearly, follows through on responsibilities, and can truly be counted on.
You'll do especially well in this role if you're experienced in private-household work, enjoy a balance of hands-on tasks and household coordination, and are comfortable switching between laundry, organization, errands, meal preparation, vendor coordination, and occasional childcare.
You're also comfortable working collaboratively with another household professional, helping establish cleaning priorities, and ensuring the family’s expectations are clearly communicated and maintained.
Most importantly, the family hopes to find someone who is genuinely interested in a long-term position and will take pride in becoming a trusted, valued part of their household.
Additional Details:
The preferred schedule is Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:30am–4:00pm, with some flexibility for the right candidate.
The position offers 25.5 guaranteed hours per week at $38-$45/hr, depending on experience.
Benefits include:
2 weeks of paid vacation (6 regularly scheduled workdays).
4 paid sick days annually
Paid major holidays falling on regularly scheduled workdays.
Access to health, vision, and dental insurance through the family’s business, with coverage details discussed during the hiring process.
Mileage reimbursement for approved work-related driving.
Very occasional evening assistance (approximately 2–3 times per year) may be appreciated with advance notice, but is not required.
Because the boys are school-aged, the family would appreciate someone comfortable providing occasional childcare assistance during school closures, holidays, and summer breaks. The parents have flexibility in their schedules, and extended family also helps during the summer.
There may be an opportunity for additional, separately scheduled housekeeping hours for interested and qualified candidates. If you are interested in this, please mention in your application.
The family is hoping to find someone who can start ASAP but is happy to wait for the right long-term fit!
