Location: Ben Avon, PA
Start date: As soon as the right fit is found!
Children: Three children | Separate nanny employed; no regular childcare required
Schedule: Monday-Friday preferred | 12pm-5pm | 25 guaranteed hours/week, with opportunities for additional hours
Compensation: $34/hour
Commitment: Long-term position
About the family:
This is a busy, welcoming family with three children and an active schedule filled with school, sports, social activities, and family commitments. Both parents have demanding professional responsibilities, mom works from home part-time, so the Household Manager should be comfortable with a parent occasionally being present at some point during the workday.
The family currently employs a separate nanny to handle the children's regular childcare needs, along with a professional cleaning service and laundry service. They are seeking a Household Manager who can take ownership of household organization, administrative responsibilities, and day-to-day logistics, allowing Mom and Dad to focus on their work and family.
An important part of the family's life centers around supporting their teenage son, who has autism. Although this is not a direct caregiving position, the Household Manager will naturally interact with him and should be genuinely comfortable, patient, kind, and confident around neurodivergent children and teenagers. Someone who enjoys being part of a family environment and can build positive relationships with everyone in the household would be an excellent fit.
The family values open communication, reliability, and a friendly, positive personality. They especially appreciate someone who can recognize what needs attention, develop solutions, and follow through independently rather than waiting to be assigned every task.
Position Responsibilities:
The Household Manager will play an important role in keeping the family's busy home organized, efficient, and running smoothly. Responsibilities will primarily focus on household organization, administrative support, scheduling, and coordinating the many moving parts of everyday family life. The family is looking for someone who can take ownership of these responsibilities, anticipate needs, and confidently manage tasks independently.
Household Management & Organization
Maintain an organized, tidy, and efficiently functioning household, including developing and maintaining organizational systems.
Proactively identify areas that need attention, take initiative on organizational projects, and implement solutions with the family's input when appropriate.
Manage household inventory, restock supplies, and coordinate shopping, errands, deliveries, and returns.
Oversee day-to-day household logistics and help ensure established routines and systems are maintained.
Administrative & Scheduling Support
Assist with coordinating family calendars, appointments, children's activities, and household schedules.
Schedule and oversee household maintenance, repairs, and service providers, including researching vendors, obtaining quotes, and following up on completed work.
Assist with household projects, vendor budgets, and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Provide personal-assistant support, including errands, scheduling, travel arrangements, and occasional household-related financial tasks.
Maintain consistent, open communication with the parents regarding household needs, schedules, and ongoing projects.
Event & Family Logistics
Assist with planning and coordinating family gatherings, parties, and special events, including vendor communication, scheduling, and event preparations.
Help manage logistics surrounding the family's busy school, sports, and social schedules.
Occasionally assist with simple child-related tasks, such as preparing snacks or providing transportation to activities, when needed and mutually agreed upon.
Light Household Upkeep
Maintain general household tidiness between professional cleaning visits, including straightening common areas, putting away belongings, and keeping spaces organized.
Assist with everyday kitchen upkeep, including dishes, loading and unloading the dishwasher, and wiping countertops.
Complete occasional light household tasks such as making beds, vacuuming as needed, and washing small loads of towels or bedding.
Please note: The family employs a professional cleaning service and utilizes a laundry service. This is not a housekeeping position, and deep cleaning, extensive laundry, and full meal preparation are not expected.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a warm, outgoing, organized, and self-motivated professional who genuinely enjoys helping a busy family stay on top of everyday life. Someone who takes pride in creating functional spaces, anticipating needs, and finding solutions without requiring constant supervision will thrive in this position.
The family would especially appreciate someone who:
Is naturally organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.
Works independently and takes ownership of assigned responsibilities from start to finish.
Can be given a desired outcome and confidently determine the steps needed to accomplish it.
Notices areas that need attention and takes initiative to develop practical solutions.
Is dependable, punctual, trustworthy, and respectful of family privacy.
Communicates openly, professionally, and consistently.
Has a friendly, positive, kind, and approachable personality.
Is comfortable interacting with children of varying ages, including a neurodivergent teenager.
Can balance multiple responsibilities, prioritize effectively, and adapt to changing household needs.
Is comfortable working in a home where a parent may occasionally be present.
Is willing to assist with occasional family-related tasks outside of traditional household management responsibilities.
Is looking for a long-term opportunity to become a valued and trusted part of a family's household.
Previous private household management, family assistant, or executive/personal assistant experience is preferred, but candidates with other relevant professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply if they meet the position's requirements.
Schedule & Compensation:
Schedule: Monday-Friday, approximately 12pm-5pm, with 25 guaranteed hours per week and opportunities for additional hours.
The family prefers afternoon hours when the home is generally quieter, allowing the Household Manager to focus on organizational and administrative responsibilities. However, they are open to discussing alternative consistent schedules with the right candidate.
The family is also open to discussing additional guaranteed hours, potentially up to 30 per week, depending on the candidate's availability and household needs.
Compensation: $34/hr
Start Date: Flexible for the right candidate, with a preferred start no later than early January 2027. A training and transition period with the outgoing Household Manager is anticipated.
